Home 5 News 5 GreenCape Celebrates Mandela Day

18 July 2017

Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world. It was launched on his birthday, 18 July, in 2009 via a unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly. Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done.

It is in your hands to make of the world a better place,” – Nelson Mandela, 2008.

This year GreenCape staff ran a food, essentials and blanket drive for two organisations that the staff felt passionately about:

Baitul Ansaar: an Orphanage in Mitchell’s Plain and a non-profit organisation dedicated to the aid of children (aged 0 – 12) who have been orphaned, neglected, abused, abandoned or left destitute.

The Haven Night Shelter (Adult Men and Woman) and Periods for Hope (feminine product campaign): who provide sustainable solutions in the form of sanitary packs containing SUBZ reusable padsstandard regular sanitary pads, and sanitizing hand wipes in order to empower women and to break the stigma surrounding menstruation.

GreenCape is proud to have made a contribution to these two incredible organisations and to the the spirit of Mandela Day in general.
